What role you will play in our team
At ExxonMobil, one of the world’s largest publicly traded energy providers and chemical manufacturers, we develop and apply next-generation technologies to help safely and responsibly meet the world’s growing needs for energy and high-quality chemical products. Affordable and sustainable energy solutions are required to advance global prosperity. We invest in technology and communities to bring the world better energy. Within ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering Company, our teams leverage our world-class facilities to research and develop the energy solutions of tomorrow.
What you will do
- Develop and apply fluid mechanics and transport phenomena models to guide the development and design of new process technologies with applications across ExxonMobil Business Divisions; Upstream Company, Product Solutions Company, and Low Carbon Solutions.
- Work collaboratively as part of cross-discipline team of experts in experimentation (active materials development, pilot plants, cold-flow experimentation), process engineering and equipment design. Though the role will be modeling focused, some programs may also offer ability to do experimental work.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in topics related to CFD to research and process engineering community.
- Your success in this role requires an aptitude for and strong background in physics based modeling, particularly in the areas of fluid dynamics and transport phenomena, and a broad interest applying these skills to process development.
- Many problems rely on strong base in chemical engineering unit operations – with a suitable academic/experience background, that can be developed through assignments on projects.
Skills and Qualifications
- PhD in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline with relevant thesis work.
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Developing and applying models in area of fluid mechanics and transport, in areas such as multiphase modeling, granular flow, or combustion.
- Computational languages: Transport modeling on platforms such as Ansys Fluent or OpenFOAM, MatLab, Python, C/C++.
- High performance computing.
- Strong ability and interest to work on applications driven abstract problems and develop creative out-of-the box solutions.
- Driven and self-motivated.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications / Experience
- Development of Custom Models (Fluent UDFs, OpenFOAM).
- Cold flow experimentation.
- Process scale-up experience understanding the impact of scale on unit operations/commercial-scale embodiment/design.
- Experience with hybrid modeling (i.e: PINNs, AI/ML).
