Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks a Staff Computational Materials Scientist to advance physics-based materials modeling for fusion power deployment. You will apply ICME methods and first-principles simulations to extreme environments in support of SPARC and ARC projects.

Collaborate with design and analysis engineers to build workflows for data capture, uncertainty quantification, and material property predictions under high temperature, neutron irradiation, and strong magnetic fields.

Qualifications

• Academic background in materials science, physics, math, or chemistry with relevant research experience.
• Experience applying ICME tools to answer engineering questions across scales.
• Proven ability to code and analyze material properties and microstructures.

Responsibilities

• Develop physics-based models and synthetic data generation for extreme environments.
• Collaborate with engineers to identify key parameters and prioritize experiments.
• Create workflows for data capture, storage, visualization and uncertainty quantification.
• Support material standard specifications and benchmarking activities.
• Stay current with evolving materials modeling techniques.
