Job description

Talascend is currently seeking a CFD Analysis Engineer for a long-term contract-to-direct career opportunity, 100% remote.

Candidate must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder.

Candidates may live anywhere in the continental U.S., but preference will be given to candidates residing within commuting distance to Bellevue, WA. No relocation support available.

OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) Thermal Hydraulics Manager, the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis Engineer will work closely with the designated Project Engineer and engineering team to explore design options for the MCFR Demonstration Reactor (MCFR-D). The successful candidate will refine core assembly designs and evaluate their thermal-hydraulic behavior under various conditions in an advanced nuclear reactor system.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform state-of-the-art CFD analysis to explore reactor architecture options, including component selections, configurations, and sizing, supporting the pre-conceptual design of a first-of-a-kind nuclear reactor system.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to analyze thermal and mechanical design considerations for the reactor and its components.
  • Provide supporting CFD analysis for various systems associated with the reactor.
  • Present technical findings to the broader team.
  • Prepare informal and formal reports to document findings and provide reasoned recommendations.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering from an accredited university. Degrees in Physics, Mathematics, or Aerospace Engineering will also be considered.
  • At least 5 years of related experience within Nuclear Power, including utilities, US Navy, or Start-up environments.
  • Proficiency with modern CFD tools (StarCCM+, ANSYS FLUENT/CFX, M-Star, or OpenFOAM).
  • Experience with CAD tools; SolidWorks preferred.
  • Knowledge of liquid metal thermal-hydraulics or experience with nuclear reactor system codes is a plus.
  • Experience with Software Quality Assurance (SQA) programs and Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) standards is highly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and teamwork orientation.

The successful candidate will demonstrate trust, integrity, open communication, respect, and a collaborative spirit.

We thank all applicants for their interest. Only those closely matching the qualifications will be contacted. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Background checks and drug screens may be required.

Pay range is not guaranteed; final offers depend on experience and location. Talascend offers benefits such as health and disability insurance, 401(k), EAP, paid time off, and holidays, with specifics varying by hire date, plan, schedule, and site requirements.
