Job summary

Firefly Aerospace, Inc. is seeking a Composite Materials & Process Engineer I to support design, manufacturing, testing and R&D projects.

You will join the advanced materials team, focusing on nonmetallic materials including carbon fiber composites and adhesives, evaluating new materials and providing technical support to internal and external customers. This role is based at our Briggs, TX site and requires up to 10% travel to customers or other Firefly sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Materials Engineering, Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in polymeric materials research, testing or manufacturing.
• Broad technical understanding of several composite material processes and operations.
• Ability to travel to customers and other Firefly sites up to 10% of the time.
• Advanced degrees in Materials Engineering or related field preferred.
• 1+ years of carbon fiber composite materials research, testing or manufacturing.
• Direct experience in carbon fiber prepregs.
• Knowledge of structural composite characterization and testing standards.
• Experience with material testing, data analysis and technical writing.
• Familiar with ASTM, ASM, NASA and ISO standards.

Responsibilities

• Research and select composite materials and processes for structural applications.
• Perform material testing, failure analysis and structural evaluations.
• Execute characterization and allowable campaigns.
• Develop and maintain material specifications.
• Provide technical support for manufacturing and design teams on non-metallic materials.
• Support failure analysis and RCCA activities.
• Develop process control improvements using test and NDE feedback.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to drive improvements to completion.
