Job summary

Firefly Aerospace, Inc. seeks a highly skilled Composite Machining Manufacturing Engineer II to lead the development of aerospace composite machining processes in a fast-paced Structures team.

The role focuses on CFRP, honeycomb, and bonded assemblies, using Mastercam for multi-axis CNC and Robotmaster with KUKA cells to ensure quality and schedule targets. You will partner with Design Engineering to improve manufacturability, write detailed work instructions, and drive continuous process

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/ Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• Significant experience in aerospace manufacturing with composite machining, CNC manufacturing, robotic machining, or advanced structures manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of carbon fiber composite materials and related machining challenges.
• Hands-on experience developing or supporting CNC routing, trimming, drilling, milling, or other machining processes.
• Strong understanding of CNC machining principles including feeds, speeds, tooling, and fixturing.
• Experience interpreting engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex manufacturing issues using structured problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and implementation of machining processes for aerospace composite components (trimming, routing, drilling, milling, profiling).
• Develop and optimize CFRP and sandwich structure machining strategies to meet cost, quality, and schedule goals.
• Create and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam for multi-axis equipment; support robotic machining with Robotmaster and KUKA cells.
• Collaborate with Design Engineering to improve manufacturability and tolerance strategies.
• Provide hands-on floor support, troubleshoot machine, robot, tooling, and programming issues; develop detailed work instructions and process specs.
• Lead investigation of machining nonconformances using root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
