Job summary

Framatome, based in Lynchburg, Virginia, seeks a Component Engineer to join our nuclear-focused team. You will evaluate, repair, replace, and improve pressure-retaining components and mechanical systems across plants, employing ASME codes and welding standards.

You’ll learn materials engineering, structural analysis, and field implementation while collaborating with senior engineers on diverse projects, including outages and next-gen reactor technologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• Basic knowledge of engineering standards and criteria.
• Exposure to CAD modeling and programming skills.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites and nuclear plants.
• Engineering internship or cooperative education experience.
• Exposure to CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor or AutoCAD.
• Familiarity with engineering calculations and finite element analysis.
• Understanding of manufacturing or fabrication processes.
• EIT/FE certification or intent to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Perform standard engineering assignments in design, development, analysis, and field tasks.
• Develop awareness of government regulations and industry standards with senior staff.
• Evaluate and apply standard techniques under mentor guidance.
• Support projects involving repair and replacement of mechanical/structural components in nuclear plants.
• Develop technical evaluations and design documentation.
• Prepare design drawings, assemblies, installation packages, and reports.
• Assist in developing work packages for plant outages and field implementation.
• Learn ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code requirements and related ASTM specs.
• Participate in design reviews and interdisciplinary meetings.
• Support fabrication by resolving technical questions and issues.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, quality personnel, and field services.
• Evaluate existing plant equipment and recommend repair or replacement.
• Support outage field activities as required.
• Continuously develop knowledge through training and project experience.
