Clean Harbors in Norwell, MA is seeking a Compliance Specialist Intern for Summer 2027. This in‑person internship offers hands‑on exposure to environmental compliance, safety processes, and permit management alongside experienced professionals.

Starting May 17 or May 24, 2027 and ending in August, you will assist the Compliance Manager with reports, on‑site inspections, file archiving, and monitoring EPA, CAA and CWA requirements.

Clean Harbors is seeking a Compliance Specialist Intern to join our safety-focused team. The Compliance Specialist Intern is responsible for assisting the Compliance Manager with maintaining compliance with all environmental regulations and permits. We are searching for a reliable and team-oriented individual with an excellent commitment to safety to join our growing team during Summer 2027!

This internship is an in-person opportunity based at our Norwell, MA headquarters and is not eligible for remote work. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals, gain exposure to our industry, and develop practical skills that support their academic and early career goals.

Start dates for our Summer 2027 Internship Program are May 17th or May 24th of 2027. Internships will run through the summer and end in August.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;
• Assist the Compliance Manager with the preparation of reports and conduct on-site inspections, in compliance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act.
• Responsible for archiving old files as directed by the Compliance Manager.
• Review facility permits to gain an understanding of the permit conditions/limitations.
• Keep abreast of the regulations/regulatory requirements by reviewing corporate compliance Q & A summaries describing regulatory changes.
• Maintain environmental compliance files.
• Notify Compliance Manager of incidents/accidents.

• Enrolled in Environmental Science or Management Degree bachelor's program
• Knowledge of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) laws/regulations
• Critical thinking: ability to identify the right audience, message, and goals

• Analytical mind; Intermediate PC/Excel skills Required, Advanced Excel skills a plus
• Ability to handle multiple priorities

As a Clean Harbors intern, you will gain hands‑on experience working alongside field teams and operational leaders who support environmental and industrial services across North America. Your day may include time at a facility or project site, participating in safety briefings, observing operational processes, and learning how teams safely manage environmental services and hazardous materials.

Interns may also assist with project coordination, review operational data, and support team initiatives that help keep operations running safely and efficiently. Throughout the internship, you will gain practical exposure to the people, processes, and safety culture that drive Clean Harbors' work in the field.
