Job summary

Compassus is seeking a Compliance Specialist I to support its healthcare compliance program. You will perform risk assessment support, data gathering, monitoring, audits, policy administration, and training activities in alignment with DOJ/OIG expectations.

Reporting to the VP of Compliance, you will engage across the organization to collect data, track findings, and escalate issues while helping draft and update policies and training materials as part of a dynamic healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; JD preferred.
• 2–3 years of compliance, healthcare, audit, or regulatory experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining enterprise-wide compliance risk assessment framework through data collection, documentation, and tracking risk inputs.
• Support monitoring and audit activities, including data collection, testing, and documentation of results.
• Monitor regulatory updates and summarize developments for internal compliance leadership.
• Assist in reviewing policies and procedures for regulatory alignment and updating as needed.
• Assist in developing and distributing compliance training/education materials.
• Coordinate investigations and develop corrective action recommendations.

About The Opportunity

Reporting to the VP of Compliance. The Compliance Specialist I supports the organization’s healthcare compliance program by executing risk assessment support, monitoring, audit coordination, policy administration, and training activities. This role focuses on operational execution, data gathering, and issue escalation in alignment with OIG compliance guidance and DOJ Evaluation of Corporate Compliance Programs expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Risk Assessment and Management

• Assists in maintaining the enterprise-wide compliance risk assessment framework through data collection, documentation, and tracking of risk inputs.
• Supports annual compliance risk assessment and workplan development by compiling survey results and preparing summaries for leadership review.

Compliance Monitoring and Audits

• Supports compliance monitoring and audit activities, including data collection, testing support, and documentation of results.
• Tracks audit findings and corrective action plans under the direction of compliance leadership.

Regulatory Monitoring and Guidance

• Monitors regulatory updates, enforcement actions, and healthcare compliance guidance (including DOJ and OIG materials). Summarizes developments for internal compliance leadership.

Policy Management

• Assists in reviewing compliance policies and procedures for alignment with regulatory requirements.
• Supports drafting and updating policies under supervision.

Training and Education

• Assists in the development and distribution of compliance training/education materials.
• Supports tailoring training/education content for business unit needs.

Vendor and Third-Party Oversight

• Maintains documentation for vendor compliance files and supports tracking of annual review requirements.

Stakeholder Support and Issue Escalation

• Responds to routine compliance inquiries and escalates complex matters.

Investigations

• Conducts and supports compliance investigations of routine to moderately complex matters

About The Best Candidates

• Strong organizational and documentation skills
• Familiarity with healthcare regulatory environment preferred, including hospice, home health, palliative, and infusion care
• Mathematical: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
• Language: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, colleagues, investors, and external parties. Strong written and verbal communications.
• Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates and embraces hospice philosophy.
• Strong attention to detail, professional maturity, and sound judgment in handling sensitive compliance information.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex healthcare regulatory requirements into clear, practical guidance for operational teams.
• Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to organize and synthesize information to support compliance monitoring, reporting, and risk identification activities.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed healthcare environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and business units, building effective working relationships and supporting cross‑functional compliance initiatives.
• Self‑starter with the ability to take ownership of assigned responsibilities, follow through on commitments, and escalation issues appropriately.
• Demonstrated ability to support or execute project-based work, including coordination of compliance initiatives, tracking deliverables, and contributing to timely completion of workplans.
• Ability to solicit and incorporate feedback from internal stakeholders to support continuous improvement of compliance processes and deliverables.
• Strong written communication skills with the ability to assist in drafting and editing policies, procedures, compliance memoranda, training materials, and internal reports.
• Working knowledge of federal and state healthcare laws and regulations, including fraud, waste, and abuse requirements, as well as general healthcare compliance and ethics program standards.
• Familiarity with healthcare compliance program best practices, including elements reflected in DOJ Evaluation of Corporate Compliance Programs and OIG Compliance Program Guidance.

Work Environment And Physical Requirements

Physical Demands

• Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking while working at a computer conducting meetings, or performing administrative duties.
• Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of up to 20 pounds, including luggage, presentation materials, and office equipment.
• Ability to navigate healthcare environments, including patient care settings, offices, and community locations, which may involve stair climbing, bending, reaching, and extended periods of walking.
• Visual acuity sufficient for reviewing reports, analyzing data, and operating standard office technology.
