Job Title: Compliance Professional
Location(s): Alpharetta, GA (Hybrid)
Position Overview

The Import Compliance & Customs Operations Specialist supports the U.S. Customs team in executing import compliance and customs operational activities to ensure adherence to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, company policies, and internal compliance requirements.

This role is a key contributor to the day-to-day management of import transactions, customs documentation, trade data review, tariff classification, and regulatory compliance activities.

The Specialist will work closely with the U.S. Customs team and cross-functional business partners to maintain compliant import processes, resolve customs-related issues, support free trade agreement initiatives, and improve operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of current U.S. import regulations and customs processes, including customs entry operations, broker management, HTS classification, USMCA qualification, and supporting documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the U.S. Customs team in executing import compliance and customs operations activities.
  • Monitor import transactions to ensure compliance with CBP regulations and internal policies.
  • Review and maintain tariff classifications (HTS), customs valuation information, country-of-origin data, and import documentation.
  • Support customs entry operations and ensure required documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Assist with customs broker management and coordination.
  • Analyze trade and import data to identify discrepancies, trends, and potential compliance concerns.
  • Investigate and support resolution of customs clearance delays, shipment holds, and entry discrepancies.
  • Maintain compliance documentation and support audit-readiness activities.
  • Collaborate with Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain, Finance, and other business functions to obtain information required for customs compliance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on compliance, operational efficiency, and data quality.
  • Monitor changes to U.S. import regulations and elevate potential compliance issues to Customs team leadership.
  • Proactively support team priorities and operational requirements as needed.
USMCA & Free Trade Agreement Responsibilities
  • Support the administration of USMCA and other Free Trade Agreement programs.
  • Review and maintain supplier USMCA certifications and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with supplier solicitation efforts and record-retention requirements related to USMCA claims.
  • Support qualification reviews and validation of information required for preferential duty treatment.
  • Maintain working knowledge of USMCA certification requirements, rules of origin, and documentation standards.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities to maximize compliant utilization of USMCA benefits.
Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Knowledge of current U.S. import regulations and customs processes.
  • Understanding of U.S. customs entry requirements and entry operations.
  • Experience with tariff classification and assigning HTS codes to products.
  • Understanding of customs valuation and country-of-origin principles.
  • Working knowledge of USMCA qualification, certification requirements, and rules of origin.
  • Experience with customs broker management and coordination.
  • Understanding of current developments and regulatory changes affecting U.S. imports.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage compliance-related documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Strong customer-service mindset and commitment to operational excellence and compliance.
  • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to proactively support team objectives.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a Customs Broker or Customs Entry Writer.
  • Experience working directly with customs brokers, freight forwarders, or import operations teams.
  • Experience supporting USMCA or other Free Trade Agreement programs.
  • Experience in import compliance, trade compliance, logistics, or supply chain operations.

The candidate should be able to understand complex customs requirements, identify potential compliance issues, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and take initiative to support day-to-day customs operations.

Additional Information
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 08:00 AM - 05:00 PM EST.
  • Training: Initial training will be conducted onsite; additional onsite training may be required as the position progresses.
