Job summary

The New York State Department of Financial Services seeks to hire a Financial Services Specialist 2 in the Consumer Examinations Unit to advance a fair, data-driven regulatory approach that protects consumers and supports regulated entities.

The role involves leading team meetings, coordinating data analysis, and presenting findings to non-technical staff, with travel up to 10% and a path toward permanent appointment within DFS.

Qualifications

• Oversee junior staff.
• Ability to work independently and be resourceful with tools and information.
• Knowledge of Consumer Compliance Fair Lending and CRA regulations (a plus).
• Experience with MS Access and MS Excel.
• Strong qualitative, analytical, and communication skills with concise writing.

Responsibilities

• Lead team meetings.
• Address data issues, monitor data progress, ensure timely completion of data analysis.
• Act as a liaison between examiners and CEU’s data team.
• Assist Senior Specialists with statistical analysis in support of fair lending and other exams.
• Support the verification process of loan data in analyzing institutions’ consumer compliance, fair lending and CRA lending activities.
• Assist in the coordination of consumer focused examinations.
• Reviews fair lending plans of institutions requested by Licensed Financial Services and other DFS business units.
• May run call reports for exams.
• Presents initial, interim and final results of data analysis in a manner accessible to non-technical audiences.
• Analyzes exam findings with Fair Lending Specialists and examiners to determine patterns of discriminatory practices.
• Tests the accuracy, integrity and consistency of data received from institutions.
• Travel may be required up to 10%;
• Other duties as assigned.
