Qualifications

  • Six (6) years of experience in data visualization, statistical models, and data mining tools.
  • Associate’s degree may substitute for two (2) years of specialized experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree may substitute for four (4) years of specialized experience.
  • Master’s degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field may substitute for five (5) years of specialized experience.
  • A J.D. may substitute for six (6) years of specialized experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data extraction and aggregation from various sources and tables.
  • Compile, analyze, mine, parse, and cleanse data related to HESC program utilization, spending, and compliance.
  • Conduct data quality assurance reviews.
  • Identify trends in program data and surface potential risks based on those trends.
  • Design approaches for identifying patterns and trends within data sources, including assessing data structures for report production.
  • Support quantitative and/or qualitative data collection.
  • Contribute to the development of dashboards, reports, and publications.
  • Summarize findings, interpret results, and communicate outcomes to management and other stakeholders.
  • Complete ad-hoc data analysis aligned with current needs and executive priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Compliance Data Analyst supports the State of New York Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) by working under the supervision of the Data Analyst 3 to extract, analyze, cleanse, and review data tied to loan forgiveness and service agreement compliance programs. This position helps translate program activity into clear results that feed dashboards, reports, and publications for both internal and external stakeholders.

What you will do

Preferred qualification and additional consideration
  • Preference may be given to candidates with qualifying experience performed in a school, school district, BOCES, education oversight agency, educational institution, education research institution, or other related research institution.
  • Preferred qualifications include strong quantitative skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Some experience with SAS, SQL, R, or Tableau is desired but not required.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Experience working with large datasets, confidential data, and relational databases.
  • Experience preparing reports.
