We are seeking a Compliance Associate to join our team!

The Compliance Associate will primarily oversee asset management of Self-Help's New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) lending program. This program aims to catalyze investments in distressed communities, especially in financing community facilities serving low-income populations. In recent funding cycles, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s CDFI Fund awarded $155 million NMTC allocation to Self-Help for impactful projects including educational and healthcare facilities.

WHAT You'll Do:

• Coordinate compliance, reporting, and servicing of active NMTC investments
• Manage relationships with NMTC investors, borrowers, CDFI Fund, and internal teams
• Develop expertise in relevant rules and regulations, advising lending teams on program eligibility
• Maintain and enhance eligibility screening tools and lead review meetings throughout funding cycles
• Monitor compliance with financial covenants and program deliverables, addressing issues proactively
• Support data management systems, gaining mastery over tracking and analyzing data across programs
• Analyze performance data and produce reports for staff, funders, and investors
• Maintain accurate data within Salesforce to meet reporting deadlines
• Stay informed about compliance and data management practices in peer organizations
• Serve as a point of contact for funders and investors
• Assist with funding proposals and contribute to team activities such as research, policy advocacy, and communications
• Perform other duties as needed

WHAT You’ll Need:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; Master’s preferred
• Minimum 6 years of combined education and work experience in community development, finance, data, law, or related fields
• Experience with tax-credit programs like NMTC and complex financial structures is a plus
• Experience monitoring compliance with federal regulations is a plus
• Strong commitment to our mission of economic opportunity
• Experience with Salesforce, SharePoint, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint; SQL and Power BI interest a plus
• Self-motivated with strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to build relationships, exercise discretion, and work under pressure
• Detail-oriented with excellent planning and prioritization skills
• Willingness to work beyond normal hours when needed

Compensation:

Competitive nonprofit salary based on experience, with a generous benefits package. Salary ranges are location-dependent:

• Oakland, CA: $79,400 - $119,100
• Chicago, IL: $66,400 - $99,600
