Los Tres Amigos Group is seeking a bilingual Legal & Compliance Specialist to support our corporate office and Michigan restaurants. This role focuses on regulatory compliance, employment law, internal controls and business operations across locations.

Responsibilities include monitoring laws, translating requirements into policies, conducting internal audits, maintaining licenses, and assisting management in reducing regulatory risk while coordinating with HR and operations.

Qualifications

  • Law degree or equivalent legal education required.
  • Strong knowledge or experience in employment, labor, regulatory or corporate compliance.
  • Fluent English and Spanish, both written and verbal.

  • Research and monitor changes in federal, state and local laws affecting our restaurants and related businesses.
  • Translate regulatory requirements into practical policies, procedures, checklists and internal controls.
  • Perform periodic internal compliance audits and restaurant reviews to identify deficiencies and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Maintain a centralized compliance calendar for licenses, permits, renewals, inspections and regulatory deadlines.
  • Support compliance with agencies and matters such as health departments, labor regulations, wage/hour, OSHA, workers' comp and payroll compliance.
  • Review and update company policies and compliance manuals as laws change.
  • Assist HR and Payroll with compliance reviews involving employee classifications and documentation.
  • Coordinate responses to regulatory notices with management and external counsel when necessary.
  • Identify compliance risks and provide management with corrective action plans.

Los Tres Amigos Group is seeking a bilingual Legal & Compliance Specialist to support our corporate office and multi-location restaurant operations throughout Michigan.

This position is ideal for a legal professional with a strong interest in regulatory compliance, employment law, internal controls and business operations. The role will be responsible for researching applicable laws and regulations, performing internal compliance reviews, maintaining corporate policies and assisting management in reducing legal and regulatory risk across the organization.

Key responsibilities
  • Research and monitor changes in federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting our restaurants and related businesses.
  • Translate regulatory requirements into practical policies, procedures, checklists and internal controls.
  • Perform periodic internal compliance audits and restaurant reviews to identify deficiencies and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Maintain a centralized compliance calendar for licenses, permits, renewals, inspections and regulatory deadlines.
  • Support compliance with requirements involving agencies and matters such as:
  • Health Departments and food safety regulations
  • Department of Labor and employment regulations
  • Wage and hour requirements
  • OSHA and workplace safety
  • Workers' compensation requirements
  • IRS and payroll-related compliance
  • Employee documentation and recordkeeping
  • Business, food service and liquor licensing
  • Other state and local regulatory requirements
  • Review and update company policies, employee procedures and compliance manuals as laws and operational requirements change.
  • Assist Human Resources and Payroll with compliance reviews involving employee classifications, payroll practices, personnel documentation and employment policies.
  • Review regulatory notices, citations, complaints and government correspondence and coordinate timely responses with management and external counsel when necessary.
  • Maintain documentation supporting inspections, investigations, licenses and compliance activities.
  • Identify compliance risks and provide management with clear recommendations and corrective action plans.
  • Coordinate with restaurant managers and regional supervisors to verify implementation of required corrective actions.
  • Assist with internal investigations and preparation of documentation related to employee or regulatory matters.
  • Serve as an internal resource for managers regarding policies, regulatory requirements and compliance procedures.
Qualifications
  • Law degree or equivalent legal education required.
  • Strong knowledge or experience in employment law, labor compliance, regulatory compliance or corporate compliance.
  • Fluent English and Spanish required, both written and verbal.
  • Strong legal and regulatory research skills.
  • Ability to interpret laws and regulations and convert them into clear operational requirements.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation and follow-up skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple regulatory deadlines simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working directly with restaurant managers, employees, government agencies and senior management.
  • Ability to travel periodically to restaurant locations throughout Michigan.
Preferred experience
  • Experience with restaurant, hospitality, retail or multi-location businesses.
  • Knowledge of Michigan employment and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience performing compliance audits or internal investigations.
  • Familiarity with payroll, wage-and-hour regulations and employee documentation.
  • Experience interacting with Health Departments, Department of Labor, OSHA or other governmental agencies.
  • Admission to practice law in Michigan or another U.S. jurisdiction is a plus, but not required.
