Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach seeks a detail-oriented Compliance Analyst to support citywide compliance efforts, ensuring operations adhere to laws, regulations, policies, and best practices. The role monitors risks, guides departments, and develops dashboards and reports to promote accountability and transparency.

The ideal candidate will have 2–4+ years in compliance or related fields, strong analytical skills, and excellent written and verbal communication, with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Legal Studies, Risk Management, or related field, or 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • 2–4+ years of experience in compliance, auditing, policy analysis, risk management, or related fields.
  • US citizen required.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data-tracking systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across city departments.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor city operations for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Assist in developing, updating, and implementing compliance policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Assist in investigating compliance‑related incidents, policy violations, or operational concerns.
  • Document findings, root causes, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Work with departments to implement remediation plans and verify completion.
  • Provide guidance and support to city departments on compliance requirements and best practices.
  • Assist in developing training materials, awareness campaigns, and educational resources.
  • Serve as a point of contact for compliance inquiries and coordination needs.
  • Prepare compliance reports, summaries, and presentations for leadership and stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation of assessments, findings, and compliance activities.
  • Support transparency and accountability through clear, consistent reporting.

Job Summary: The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a detail‑oriented and highly analytical Compliance Analyst to support citywide compliance efforts, ensuring municipal operations adhere to applicable laws, regulations, internal policies, and best practices. This role helps safeguard the city’s integrity, operational consistency, and public trust by monitoring compliance risks, supporting audits, and guiding departments through regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

Regulatory & Policy Compliance

  • Monitor city operations for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Review and interpret regulatory requirements and communicate impacts to city departments.
  • Assist in developing, updating, and implementing compliance policies, procedures, and standards.

Requirements:

  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Legal Studies, Risk Management, or related field; OR 4 or more years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 2–4+ years of experience in compliance, auditing, policy analysis, risk management, or related fields.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and data‑tracking systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across city departments.
  • Successful background and drug screening check.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience working in local government, public‑sector compliance, or municipal operations.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks relevant to public administration, safety, HR, procurement, or operational compliance.
  • Experience conducting internal audits or compliance assessments.
  • Certifications such as CCEP, CRCM, CRMA, or similar compliance‑related credentials.
  • Experience with compliance management software or workflow tools.
