Job summary

The YMCA of Southwestern Indiana seeks a Competitive Swim Director to lead the competitive swimming program at the Deaconess Aquatic Center. You will manage partnerships with city officials and local swim teams, coordinate practice and meet schedules, and ensure safe, inclusive team culture emphasizing swimmer well-being and sportsmanship.

You will oversee staff recruitment, training, and event volunteers, coordinate meet logistics, and maintain registrations, eligibility, and meet results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent education and experience.
• At least two years of competitive swim coaching and staff supervision experience.
• Knowledge of meet administration, competitive and masters swimming.
• Current USA Swimming coach membership in good standing (or within 3 months of hire), with required coach education, safety training, and background screening.
• Current lifeguard certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain YMCA safety standards at practices and meets.
• Lead community relations for competitive swimming and coordinate partnerships with local teams.
• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise staff and event volunteers.
• Plan and coordinate swim meets, eligibility, deadlines, and entries with local teams and agencies.
• Coordinate meet logistics with staff, officials, and volunteers (pool setup, timing, warm-ups, results, cleanup).
• Manage registrations, eligibility records, attendances, meet entries, times, and results.
• Balance practice scheduling and pool usage with other facility programs and public use.
• Serve as liaison to parent advisory committees and coordinate meetings and recognitions.
• Promote group and private swimming lessons; support fundraising and annual campaigns.
