Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Swim Coach Assistant to provide leadership, instruction and motivation for participants in a competitive swim environment, creating a safe, positive atmosphere promoting member safety and engagement, youth development and healthy living in accordance with YMCA standards.

You will assist the swim coach with creating and leading age-appropriate workouts focusing on technique, endurance, and stroke development, and maintain attendance/records while coordinating

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18 and at least 5 years older than the oldest youth participant.
• 2 years of competitive swim experience preferred.
• Proficiency in Swim Instructor skills per YMCA standards.
• Current or must obtain ARC Safety Training for Swim Coaches and YMCA Lifeguard or YASA.
• Current or must obtain ASHI certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Oxygen, and related trainings.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people.

Responsibilities

• Know and follow emergency procedures per YMCA standards.
• Maintain all required certifications.
• Teach competitive swimming skills per YMCA standards.
• Assist the swim coach with age-appropriate workouts focusing on technique, endurance, and stroke development.
• Assist with attendance and progress records.
• Perform daily equipment checks and ensure equipment is available.
• Coordinate and execute swim competitions and meet registrations.
• Communicate with volunteers and parents clearly and timely.
• Possibly conduct stroke booster clinics.
• Report suspicious or policy-violating behavior.
• Follow abuse and incident reporting requirements.
• Meet deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance.
