Job summary

YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties in Puyallup, WA is seeking a Competitive Gymnastics Coach to lead and motivate a team of gymnasts, ensuring safety and adherence to USAG and YMCA guidelines. The role is part-time, up to 25 hours per week, with a wage range of $20.50 to $27.45 per hour, based on experience.

Candidates should have several years of coaching or competing gymnastics and the ability to prepare athletes for competition.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years’ experience in teaching competitive gymnastics
• Knowledge to instruct beginning to advanced levels of gymnastics
• Pass background and reference checks as per WA state requirements
• Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day
• Experience with children in program settings and diverse populations
• Ability to coach competitive gymnastics skills and progressions

Responsibilities

• Prepare lesson plans with progression for level of gymnast
• Develop competitive program based on USA Gymnastics guidelines
• Implement skill curriculum for pre-competitive gymnasts
• Attend and assist in competitive meet competitions
• Coach youth across competitive levels and ensure safe spotting techniques
• Create conditioning workouts to support skill progression
• Maintain safety rules and gym cleanliness
• Keep records of class participants’ progress and attendance
• Communicate with parents and supervisor about performance and needs
• Organize team workouts with the Gymnastics Director’s guidance

Job description

Wage: $20.50 to $27.45 per hour (Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)

Hours: Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week

Location: Mel Korum Family YMCA, Puyallup, WA

As a Competitive Gymnastics Coach, you will provide direct leadership, instruction, motivation, and coaching to students in gymnastics to prepare them for competition, according to YMCA and USAG guidelines for competitive Gymnastics Team. The ideal candidate for this role has previously overseen gymnasts who compete at a competitive level.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of three years’ experience inteaching competitive gymnasticsand/or four years of personal gymnastics experience preferred. Five years or more experience as coach or competitor preferred.
• Knowledge and skills to instruct beginning, intermediate and advanced levels of boys’ and girls’ gymnastics.
• Understanding of USA Gymnastics guidelines and working knowledge of Junior Olympic Program.
• Previous experience working with children preferably in a program setting and diverse populations.
• Ability to coach various competitive levels of gymnastics skills and progressions.
• Possess the knowledge and skills needed to prepare gymnasts mentally and physically for competition in the USAG and YMCA programs.
• Knowledge and skills in program activities and related gymnastics and office equipment set-up.
• Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).
• Committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
• Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare lesson plans with a natural progression appropriate to the level of the competitive gymnast.
• Develop a gymnastics team’s competitive program based on and using the USA Gymnastics guidelines.
• Implement skill curriculum for pre-competitive gymnasts under the guidance of the Gymnastics Director.
• Attend and assist in competitive meet competitions.
• Coach youth in various competitive levels of gymnastics skills and progression.
• Provide safe spotting techniques and support a safe environment of learning.
• Create appropriate conditioning workouts to support skill progression.
• Responsible for instruction of competitive gymnastics skills and progression.
• Enforce all safety rules and regulations in the gymnastics gym.
• Keep accurate records of each class participant’s progress reports.
• Accurately track class attendance.
• Communicate with parents and supervisor regarding participants’ performance and needs.
• Organize competitive team workout schedule that maximizes success and improvement for each athlete, with the assistance of the Gymnastics Director.
