Job summary

Friends of the Children - Central Oregon is seeking a Friend to work intensively with eight children as a positive adult role model in La Pine, Oregon. The role focuses on building a caring, trusting, and sustained relationship, setting positive expectations, and supporting youth development through enrichment activities and family engagement.

Responsibilities include one-on-one mentoring, documenting activities, coordinating with families and schools, and maintaining a 40-hour weekly schedule

Qualifications

  • Experience working with K-2nd grade youth and families.
  • Ability to partner with parents/caregivers to provide concrete and social emotional support.
  • Ability to develop trusting relationships with children, families, teachers, and others involved in each child’s life.
  • Ability to relate to children and to develop and sustain trusting relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain a long-term, caring, protective, and loving relationship with each child.
  • Spend time with children, one-on-one.
  • Partner with parents/caregivers to provide concrete and social emotional supports for the family.
  • Set realistic expectations and goals based on each child’s strengths, talents, abilities, and needs.
  • Teach life skills and help develop talents/skills/areas of interest for each child.
  • Deepen connections for youth through incorporating community knowledge in programming.
  • Provide enrichment resources and activities including opportunities for identity development.
  • Maintain a 40-hour work schedule including afternoons, evenings, and weekends (Tue–Sat; Sun and Mon off).
  • Maintain spending within budgetary guidelines.
  • Complete, distribute, and collect time summaries, activity journals, and evaluations timely.
