Job summary

Goodlettsville Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in patient care, exams, surgeries, and lab work. You will help monitor hospitalized pets, prep prescriptions, and educate clients on care plans.

The role requires weekend work and a collaborative team approach in a busy, well-established practice dedicated to high‑quality companion animal care in the community.

Qualifications

• Ability to work on weekends as required.
• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; assist with heavier lifts.
• OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE.
• Basic math and dosage calculations.
• Basic computer skills (MS Office).
• Strong communication skills for patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in veterinary medicine and surgery as needed.
• Assist with outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, and providing client education.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during procedures.
• Obtain samples and perform in-house laboratory testing; prepare specimens for outside labs.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
• Clean and restock exam rooms and lab areas; maintain equipment.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism with clients; care for patients.
• Communicate with veterinarians and team members including client discussions and patient plans.
• Any other duties as assigned.
