Job summary

Qualifications

• Prior animal care experience preferred.
• Ability to lift over 50 lbs and stand long periods.
• Willing to work weekends and holidays.
• Basic math and ability to calculate medication dosages.
• Basic computer skills (MS Office).
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in patient care and surgery as needed.
• Assist with outpatient exams—taking histories, vital signs, weights, client education.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during procedures.
• Obtain blood, stool and samples; perform in-hospital lab testing and prep specimens.
• Take and develop radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed by vet.
• Clean and restock exam rooms, treatment and lab areas; maintain equipment.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism with clients and patients.
• Communicate with veterinarians and team members including client discussions and care plans.
• Any other duties as assigned.
