Job summary

Petco is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our Vetco Total Care hospital team in New Jersey. You will greet clients and pets, collect histories, and assist doctors with exams, surgery, and anesthesia while maintaining EMR records.

The role requires compassion, strong communication, and computer skills. Prior veterinary experience is preferred; training is provided to ensure excellent patient care and client service.

Qualifications

• Preferred at least 1 year of experience in veterinary practice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be compassionate, professional under stress.
• Must have telephone and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort to exam room; record weight, vital signs, and document in EMR.
• Assist doctors with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, collect lab samples, and dispense medications as directed.
• Schedule appointments, educate clients, relay test results, and maintain client/patient records.
• Prepare patients for surgical/dental procedures and assist in anesthesia and recovery.
