Petco is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support Vetco Total Care hospital patients and their owners. You will contribute to high-quality care, assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians, and help maintain patient records and a positive client experience.

The role emphasizes teamwork, compassionate patient care, and seamless front-desk support as needed. Candidates should have veterinary experience or strong animal care background, plus solid communication skills.

Qualifications

• Preferred to have at least 1-year previous experience working in veterinary practice or sufficient relatable animal care experience
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must be compassionate and sympathetic, and be able to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations
• Must have telephone and computer skills
• Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort them into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs and record the EMR
• Assist doctors with appointments (routine and emergency), surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia, under supervision
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process lab samples, handle and dispense medications at the direction of the veterinarian
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results to doctor and clients, and update records
• Assist in preparing patients for surgical/dental procedures and monitor anesthesia
• Perform in-hospital treatments including meds and IV fluids, keep patients clean, fed, and walked as needed
• Assist in training new staff and disseminating knowledge
• Keep hospital environment neat and perform regular cleaning per schedule
