Job summary

AmeriVet is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in animal care across clinics, hospitals, and shelters. The role involves maintaining rooms, preparing equipment, and assisting during examinations with compassion and accuracy.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, good communication skills, and the ability to lift/ restrain animals. Prior animal care experience is preferred, and benefits are offered for full-time staff.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience with animals preferred.
  • Certification as a veterinary technician is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of animal care and medical terminology.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift and restrain animals safely.
  • Comfortable working with animals, including sick or injured pets.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during exams and procedures.
  • Restrain animals safely during treatments and examinations.
  • Feed, bathe, exercise, and monitor animals.
  • Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, examination rooms, and surgical areas.
  • Prepare instruments and equipment for procedures.
  • Collect laboratory samples such as urine, stool, or blood specimens.
  • Administer medications or vaccinations under supervision (as allowed by state regulations).
  • Maintain accurate medical records and update patient information.
  • Schedule appointments and communicate with pet owners.
  • Monitor animal behavior and report changes to veterinary staff.
  • Stock supplies and maintain inventory.
