Job summary

Carolina Family Vet in Asheville, NC is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians with patient care, in-house lab work, and client education. You'll assist with exams, surgeries, and radiographs, while maintaining accurate records and ensuring safety.

We value compassion, teamwork, and clear communication. Weekend availability and physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds are required. Compensation is $16-$19 per hour with benefits.

Qualifications

• Ability to work on weekends as required.
• Basic math for medication dosages.
• Strong communication to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed.
• Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, and educating clients.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during surgery.
• Obtain samples; perform in-hospital lab testing and prepare specimens.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
• Clean and restock exam rooms and equipment; maintain public areas.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism with clients; show compassion to patients.
• Communicate with veterinarians and team members including client discussions and patient plans.
