Essex Middle River Veterinary Center (EMRVC) in Essex, Maryland, seeks a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians during outpatient exams and throughout diagnosis and treatment, providing compassionate care to patients and serving as the primary liaison with clients.

You will assist with exams, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures, restrain animals with low-stress handling, administer medications, draw vaccines, collect lab samples, and maintain medical records and billing entries with

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Basic computer proficiency with practice management software and MS Office.
• Previous experience with animals preferred; veterinary or animal care background valued.
• Must lift up to 50 pounds and handle animals up to 130 pounds.
• Ability to work in emotionally challenging or high-stress situations.
• Maintains professional appearance and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Provides compassionate, professional care to patients and clients during exams and procedures.
• Assists veterinarian during exams, diagnostics, treatments, and surgical procedures.
• Restrains animals using low-stress handling techniques and ensures safety.
• Administers medications, draws vaccines, collects lab samples, and performs basic tests.
• Documents treatment plans accurately in medical records and billing entries.
• Educates clients on vaccines, medications, and care plans.
