Job summary

Petco is hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support Vetco Total Care patients and provide excellent client service in a fast-paced hospital setting.

You will greet clients, assist veterinarians, handle exams, assist with surgeries, monitor anesthesia, and help educate pet owners while maintaining accurate records. A compassionate, team-focused attitude is essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Preferred to have at least 1-year previous experience working in veterinary practice.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be compassionate and sympathetic, and be able to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort them into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs and record in EMR.
• Assist doctors with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia as directed.
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, and dispense medications under supervision.
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, and maintain client/patient records.
• Prepare patients for procedures and assist in anesthesia and recovery as directed.
• Provide in-hospital treatments including medications and fluid therapy as needed.
