Job summary

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support Vetco Total Care full‑service hospital patients and provide exceptional customer service to owners.

The role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to medical protocols, and accurate documentation in the EMR. Responsibilities include greeting clients, assisting doctors with exams and procedures, patient restraint, sample processing, and maintaining records.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be a team player and willing to learn new techniques.
• Compassionate and empathetic, able to maintain professionalism in stressful situations.
• Must have telephone and computer skills.
• Experience in a veterinary practice is preferred (1 year).

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients, escort to exam room, obtain weights and vital signs, and document in EMR.
• Assist doctors with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.
• Restrain patients, process lab samples, handle and dispense medications as directed by the veterinarian.
• Schedule appointments, educate clients, relay results, and maintain records.
• Prepare patients for procedures and monitor anesthesia under supervision.
• Provide in-hospital treatments, administer medications, and support with hydration and nutrition as directed.
