Bocage Animal Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA is seeking a Veterinary Technician to assist veterinarians and other staff in patient care, surgery support, and lab work. You will educate clients, monitor hospitalized pets, and help maintain inventory and safety procedures.

The role emphasizes compassion, collaboration with the team, and clear communication with clients to ensure high-quality care and positive patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Ability to work on weekends as required.
• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; with assistance beyond 25 pounds.
• Practice OSHA safety techniques including PPE; basic math for dosages.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with MS Office applications.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed.
• Assist outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights; provide client education.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during surgery.
• Obtain samples and perform in-hospital lab testing; prepare specimens for outside labs.
• Take radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
• Clean and restock rooms and assist with maintaining equipment; promote cleanliness.
