Job summary

PetVet Care Centers – Kleinpeter Veterinary Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA seeks a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in daily tasks, including cleaning, feeding, restraining, and clerical work. The role emphasizes compassionate care and client communication in a full-service practice.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position.
• Experience in veterinary practices and works closely with DVMs.
• 1 or more years of Vet Assistant or Vet Tech experience.
• Must have surgery experience.
• Must be proficient in blood draw, anesthetic monitoring, radiology, and administering medication.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients.
• Greet patients and owners, obtain weight and vital signs on arrival.
• Triage patients and assist with physical exams, treatments, and medication administration as directed.
• Calm anxious patients and assist doctors with procedures.
• Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs.
• Operate and maintain hospital equipment and supplies.
• Fill prescriptions and maintain medication documentation, including controlled substances.
• Feed and monitor patients, report abnormal conditions to staff.
• Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and treatment plans.
• Maintain hospital cleanliness and proper chemical handling.
• Bath and groom patients staying overnight; ensure clean releases.
• Maintain accurate medical records and adhere to safety regulations.
• Show up for full-time shifts and support hospital operations.
• Promote hospital products and services and assist with special areas as needed.
