Job summary

Bocage Animal Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA is seeking a Credentialed Veterinary Technician to join our compassionate team. You will assist veterinarians in surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, and laboratory work, while educating clients and caring for patients throughout their visit.

Qualifications

• State license to work as a veterinary technician.
• Ability to lift patients up to 25 pounds; lift assistance for heavier patients.
• OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with MS Office.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in veterinary medicine and surgery as needed.
• Assist in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, and provide client education.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during surgery.
• Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-hospital laboratory testing.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments.
• Clean and straighten exam rooms, restock supplies, and assist others to keep areas clean.
• Demonstrate warmth and professionalism with clients; care for patients.
• Communicate with veterinarians and staff about client discussions and plans.
• Any other duties as assigned.
