Job summary

Northeast Georgia Health System is seeking a patient care associate to provide a wide range of support services on the units. You will maintain patient records, manage unit supplies, assist with patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse, and serve as a communication facilitator among staff, patients, and families.

The role supports adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients, follows population-specific guidelines, and adheres to safety goals.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or high school transcript showing completion of at least the sophomore level of high school.
• One year previous experience as a nursing assistant, patient care technician, or unit assistant is required. Nursing students who have completed Foundations of Nursing are eligible without previous experience.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and reports basic patient physiological data.
• Utilizes proper body mechanics and provides for positioning, mobility, hygiene, and comfort needs.
• Monitors fluids intake and output and documents.
• Identifies and reports changes to licensed staff.
• Organizes patient care and sets priorities per orders within time frames.
• Performs procedures and reports patient responses to supervising nurse.
• Makes rounds and responds to patient call lights and requests.
• Explains procedures to patients before starting.
• Records patient data accurately and forwards to supervisory staff.
• Answers patient intercom and directs requests to appropriate staff.
• Notifies appropriate departments of changes and requests repairs as needed.
• Distributes linens and refreshment items as required.
• Performs patient transport as needed by the unit.
• Prepares rooms for new admissions and orients patients and family to unit.
