Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection (finger and heel sticks) per policies to ensure accurate specimen collection.
• Ensures positive patient identification using two identifiers and bedside labeling to prevent errors.
• Prepares, packages, and transports specimens to the laboratory while maintaining sample integrity and safety.
• Explains procedures to patients, providing reassurance and addressing concerns for a positive patient experience.
• Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains phlebotomy equipment and workspace per safety standards.
• Accurately documents patient and specimen information in the laboratory system in compliance with regulations.
• Collects timed specimens as ordered and prioritizes tasks to meet clinical needs.
• Identifies and resolves specimen issues, including rejections and recollections when necessary.
• Collaborates with healthcare team to clarify orders and communicate specimen status.
• Follows all laboratory and hospital safety requirements and standard operating procedures.
