Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection (finger/heel sticks) per policy to ensure timely specimens.
• Ensures positive patient identification using two identifiers and bedside labeling to prevent errors.
• Prepares, packages, and transports specimens to the lab while maintaining specimen integrity and safety.
• Explains procedures to patients to ensure a positive experience and calm interactions.
• Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains phlebotomy equipment and workspace per safety controls and infection prevention.
• Documents patient and specimen information accurately in the lab system per regulatory standards.
• Collects timed specimens as ordered and prioritizes tasks to meet clinical needs.
• Addresses specimen issues, including rejections and recollection when necessary.
• Collaborates with healthcare team to clarify orders and communicate specimen status.
• Follows all lab and hospital safety requirements and supports accreditation/regulatory compliance.
