Job summary

Southeast Medical Group is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our laboratory team in a patient-focused role. The position involves safe venipuncture, accurate specimen labeling and transport, and close collaboration with nurses and physicians to ensure quality patient care.

Responsibilities include documenting data in the EHR, maintaining a clean work environment, and adhering to OSHA safety standards and HIPAA privacy policies. Flexibility for shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program preferred.
• Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician required within 6 months of hire.
• Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience, preferably in clinical/hospital settings.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, venipuncture techniques and infection control.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse patient populations.
• Proficiency with medical software; basic computer skills required.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs; flexible hours.
• Background check, drug screen, and proof of immunizations (Hepatitis B) required.
• Current Medical Assistant Certification and BLS per OSHA

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections on patients of all ages.
• Verify patient identity, explain procedures, and obtain informed consent.
• Label, process, and transport specimens to the lab with proper chain-of-custody.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and proper disposal of biohazardous waste.
• Assist with inventory management of phlebotomy supplies and equipment.
• Enter patient data and test requests into the EHR with accuracy.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and lab techs to ensure patient care.
• Participate in QA activities, proficiency testing, and equipment calibration.
• Adhere to all policies including HIPAA and safety protocols.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Phlebotomy training program

Phlebotomy Technician certification within 6 months

Basic life support (BLS) certification
