Job summary

UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform phlebotomy and specimen collection for inpatients and outpatients, under the supervision of Medical Technologists. You will assist with clerical tasks and may work at off-site locations while ensuring accuracy and patient safety.

The role requires a high school diploma, preferred phlebotomy certification, and 6 months of experience. Medical terminology knowledge and LIS experience are a plus, with equal opportunity employer commitments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy program preferred.
• Minimum 6 months phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and LIS experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interact courteously with laboratory customers and respond to inquiries.
• Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heel stick, and fingerstick; instruct patients as needed.
• Follow proper patient identification and specimen collection procedures.
• Transport specimens to the laboratory and maintain safety protocols.
