Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Hospital seeks a General Lab Women’s Phlebotomist to collect clinical laboratory samples, including blood via skin puncture and venipuncture, as well as urine and other specialty collections. The role supports the pathology team, adheres to safety policies, and ensures specimen integrity for timely laboratory testing.

Familiarity with medical terminology is a plus; the candidate should communicate effectively with patients and medical personnel and operate lab computer

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate well with patients, family, peers and medical personnel.
• Familiarity with medical terminology is a plus.
• Able to perform basic mathematical calculations and read gauges/graphs as part of specimen handling.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples via skin puncture (capillary) and venipuncture.
• Collect urine samples and other specialty collections as required.
• Ensure specimen integrity, proper labeling, and timely transport.
• Utilize laboratory computer systems, collection lists, and pending logs.
• Maintain clean, organized blood drawing trays and equipment.
• Meet established turnaround times for STAT, AM, Timed, and routine orders.
• Follow infection control policies and safety procedures.
• Assist clerks with receiving specimens and answering phones when available.
• Adhere to policies for mobile devices and related communication tools.
