Job summary

The Pet Care Assistant works with the veterinary medical team to provide and prepare for the best medical care of pets, and to ensure this is provided in a happy, welcoming, friendly and efficient manner, influencing clients to return and refer their friends and families.

Responsibilities include preparing treatment rooms, setting up procedures, maintaining hospital cleanliness, and supporting client services.

Qualifications

• Ability to multi-task and manage several tasks simultaneously with accuracy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Systematic organizational approach and attention to detail.
• Strong problem solving and practical solution orientation.
• Consistently delivers attentive, courteous client service.
• Ability to follow complex instructions and directions precisely.
• Basic math skills including rate, ratio and percent calculations.
• Comfort with using a computer and basic software.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the treatment room and medical supplies for examinations.
• Set up fecals, smears, and skin scrapings as allowed by state rules.
• Maintain the flow of the Cycle of Service in the hospital.
• Provide client education on preventive care and wellness plans.
• Support Client Services Coordinator as needed.
• Restrain pets during examination or procedures when required.
• Prepare in-house lab tests within state regulations.
• Monitor comfort of hospitalized patients, exercise and care for them.
• Bathe and care for pets as advised by the veterinary team.
• Clean surgical suite and instruments; maintain hospital cleanliness.
• Assist with additional duties as assigned.
