Job summary

IndependenceFirst is seeking a Personal Care Worker to provide compassionate personal care services to consumers, under supervision of the Care Coordinator and the consumer. The role includes assisting with bed mobility, bathing, toileting, eating, grooming, dressing, light cleaning, and ensuring privacy and confidentiality in all interactions.

You'll work in a one-on-one setting, following written plans and documenting conditions promptly.

Qualifications

• Adequate training in personal care services; documentation of training is required.
• Previous experience may be accepted in lieu of formal training.

Responsibilities

• Assisting consumer with getting in and out of bed.
• Assisting consumer with toileting and incontinent care.
• Assisting consumer with bathing or showering.
• Assisting with eating.
• Assisting with grooming including mouth, denture, hair, shaving and nail care.
• Assisting with dressing and undressing.
• Cleaning of eyeglasses and hearing aids.
• Assisting with mobility and ambulation using gait belt, walker or cane.
• Performing simple transfers such as bed to chair or wheelchair and reverse.
• Providing skin care excluding wound care.
• Preparing and serving meals.
• Performing light cleaning in areas used during personal care activities.
• Changing the consumer’s bed, washing bed linens and the consumer’s personal clothing.
• Completing all time sheets and documenting the consumer’s condition in a thorough, accurate, and timely manner.
• Keeping the consumer’s information confidential.
