Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Transporter to move patients between departments, verify identities, and ensure safety during transport. You will disinfect equipment, assist patients, and report maintenance needs while following infection control practices.

The role requires a high school diploma and BLS certification within 90 days, with a 40-hour work week and hourly pay between $17.21 and $22.37.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• BLS certification through American Heart Association (or within 90 days of employment).
• Preferred: At least 1 year experience with patient transport handling.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients as assigned.
• Verify patient identity using two identifiers.
• Adjust transport equipment for patient safety and comfort.
• Disinfect/wipe down equipment between transports.
• Assist patients onto transport equipment as needed.
• Own and maintain transport equipment and report maintenance needs.
• Notify nursing/ancillary staff on arrival/departure of patients.
• Handle patient documents related to transport (e.g., ticket to ride).
• Report unusual symptoms during transport (fainting, shortness of breath).
• Move and care for transport equipment for patient movement.
• Follow infection control precautions, PPE, and isolation guidelines.
• Transport patient oxygen after clinician setup.
• Provide feedback on equipment conditions and availability.
• Other duties as assigned.
