Job summary

SageWest Health Care in Fremont County, Wyoming, seeks a Patient Sitter for the Lander MedSurg unit. Under RN supervision, you will provide continuous observation and support to patients requiring enhanced safety measures, ensuring safety and comfort.

Responsibilities include non-clinical tasks, emotional reassurance, and assisting with keeping the patient area clean and safe. PRN hours may apply, with teamwork and strict adherence to infection control protocols.

Qualifications

• Must read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Strong critical thinking and sound judgment.
• Must remain calm in stressful situations.
• Familiarity with translation services when needed.
• Regular and punctual attendance is required.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant visual observation of assigned patient; never leave the patient alone or out of sight.
• Alert nursing staff promptly when patient requires assistance or shows changes in condition.
• Provide emotional support and companionship to patients.
• Accompany patients off unit for tests or procedures, remaining in close proximity.
• Report hazards or safety concerns to the nurse and help maintain a neat, orderly patient room.
• Record patient behavior and significant events as directed.
• Adhere to infection control and isolation procedures in accordance with facility policies.
• Follow RN directions regarding observation protocols, documentation, and response to patient behaviors.
• Perform basic support tasks including helping set up meal trays, removing trash, and assisting with linens.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
• Complete mandatory education and training requirements.
