Job summary

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago is seeking a Patient Care Technician to provide basic daily care to patients, assist with hygiene and daily living activities, and support the nursing team under supervision of registered nurses.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED and CNA certification or current enrollment in a nursing program; orientation completion, strong communication, critical thinking, and ability to lift up to 35 lbs are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CNA certification or current enrollment in accredited nursing program required.
• Completion of Patient Care Technician orientation.
• Ability to care for patients across age groups.
• Effective communication and problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Performs activities in patient care including hygiene, feeding, elimination, mobility and dressing.
• Collects specimens, takes vital signs, records intake/output and blood glucose, catheterization and other routine tasks.
• Documents data in nursing database and reports changes to nursing staff.
• Transfers patients and equipment between areas as needed.
• Supports nursing staff and adheres to safety plans and care protocols.
