Job summary

MedStar Health is hiring a Certified Nursing Assistant to join the patient-centered care team. The role provides direct patient care under supervision of a registered nurse, assisting with ADLs, specimen collection, EKGs, and vital sign monitoring.

The position requires a CNA certification, CPR certification, and strong communication skills. The incumbent will contribute to safety, comfort, and quality of care, while supporting patient education and care transitions.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent required.
• Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program required.

Responsibilities

• Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and personal hygiene.
• Collects specimens (e.g. blood, urine, sputum, stool); performs venipuncture/phlebotomy; obtains EKGs.
• Applies external telemetry monitoring devices and manages IV sites as needed.
• Measures and documents intake/output and vital signs; records data in the health record.
• Maintains patient comfort, privacy and dignity; assists with examinations and procedures.
• Rounds on assigned patients and communicates changes to the RN; assists with hand-offs.
• Transports patients during discharge/transfer and supports environmental services as needed.
• Attends staff meetings and participates in quality improvement initiatives.
