Job summary

VCU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to provide age-specific direct care under the direction of the RN. The role emphasizes safety, data collection, and collaboration with the health care team to support compassionate patient care.

The position requires a High School degree or equivalent, CNA preferred, and BLS certification. Duties include vital signs, specimen collection, reporting changes, and maintaining clean, stocked units in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Degree or equivalent is required.
• Preferred Certification: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
• Licensure/Certification: AHA BLS HCP or equivalent.
• Certification/Completion of CNA, Medical Assistant, EMT, Military Corpsman/Medic, Nursing Aide Training Program or healthcare experience as minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and direct care to patients in assigned unit with age-appropriate adjustments.
• Monitor patients’ conditions and provide updates to the health care team.
• Provide direct and indirect care to meet comfort, hygiene and safety needs.
• Maintain a safe, clean, stocked environment to support patient care needs.
• Record patient information including vitals, intake/output, and weight/height as per policy.
• Collect specimens for diagnostic tests as needed.
• Attend mandatory trainings and adhere to policies.
• Report safety concerns to licensed staff promptly.
