Job summary

VCU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to provide direct, age-appropriate care under RN or licensed practitioner supervision. You will monitor patients, assist with daily activities, and help maintain a safe clinical environment per policy.

Responsibilities include recording vital signs, assisting with hygiene and mobility, and supporting the care plan while ensuring accurate documentation and safety at all times.

Qualifications

• High School Degree or equivalent (required).
• Preferred Certification: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
• Licensure/Certification: AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent.
• Certification/Completion of one of the following: CNA, Medical Assistant, EMT, Military Corpsman/Medic, Nursing Aide Training Program.
• Experience in a healthcare environment.
• Knowledge of patient data collection and documentation (vital signs, intake/output).

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, direct care to patients in assigned unit with age-appropriate adjustments.
• Monitor patients’ conditions and provide updates to the health care team.
• Deliver care per nursing plans of care and hospital policy.
• Maintain a safe, clean, stocked environment to support patient needs.
• Record initial and ongoing patient information (vital signs, input/output, height/weight).
• Assist in specimen collection for diagnostic tests as needed.
• Participate in mandatory trainings and adhere to infection control policies.
• Ensure patient safety and report any incidents to licensed staff.
