Job summary

Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids is seeking a Patient Care Tech or CNA to support nursing staff. You will communicate with patients, families, and coworkers, and document care in real time.

You will protect patient privacy, respond to emergencies within scope, and help organize daily work. A high school diploma is preferred, with CNA or Health Support Program experience preferred; BLS required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
• Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse and Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required.
• Strong communication and patient-care skills.

Responsibilities

• Communicate accurate and clinically relevant information to patients, families, and co-workers at handoffs and as needed.
• Ensure essential information is shared among involved parties for optimal patient outcomes.
• Provide safe, effective care under supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Observe and report changes in patient condition and needs to the licensed nurse.
• Demonstrate age-appropriate communication, addressing fears, anxieties, and language/cultural barriers.
• Maintain real-time documentation of patient care.
• Protect patient privacy by safeguarding information.
• Respond to emergencies within scope of practice.
• Support practice changes to improve performance.
• Organize and prioritize daily work considering patient and family needs.
• Keep patient rooms and department areas clean and organized.
