Job summary

Wheeling Hospital, part of WVU Medicine, seeks a patient care assistant to provide direct and indirect patient care under RN supervision. You’ll help with daily living activities, monitor vital signs, and support the nursing team in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire. Prior patient care experience is preferred. Schedule includes a 36-hour work week with non-exempt status.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Observe and report patient concerns or changes in condition to a registered nurse.
• Assist with admission, transfer, discharge, and general patient care duties.
• Record vital signs and assist with hygiene and comfort measures.
• Assist with specimen collection and routine activities of assigned patients.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment to prevent infections and ensure safety.
• Communicate nutrition-related issues to the RN and support department operations.
• Assist in coordinating administrative tasks and respond to patient call bells.
