Job summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking a Nursing Support Assistant (CNA) to join the 8W Surgical unit at Hyde Park. Under RN supervision, you will perform supportive patient care, monitor patients, document activities, and assist with daily living tasks to support the clinical team.

The role emphasizes strong communication, safety-focused care, and the ability to lift and move patients as required. A high school diploma and active Illinois HCWR CNA registration or nursing student status with competency

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be listed on the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry (HCWR) as an Illinois CNA OR a nursing student who has passed the written competency exam and is listed on the HCWR.
• CPR/BLS Certification required.
• Ability to read and write, perform simple calculations, follow instructions, work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work with management and staff.
• May involve lifting over 50 lbs.
• Physical exertion including walking, standing, CPR, and lifting may be required.
• Excellent observation and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic patient care activities including vital signs and simple tests.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and infection control.
• Assists with personal hygiene, ambulation, and nourishment.
• Collects patient specimens and weighs patients as assigned.
• Assists with discharge and transfer preparation.
• Maintains patient environment and beds; prepares rooms.
• Maintains supplies/equipment and the environment.
• Communicates and documents activities in records/logs.
• Initiates CPR and responds to emergencies per protocol.
