Job summary

Good Shepherd Community Care in Newton, MA is seeking a Music Therapist to address emotional and psychological needs of patients with life-limiting illnesses through therapeutic music activities. You will join an interdisciplinary team serving hospice and pediatric palliative care programs.

The role requires a degree in music therapy, MT-BC certification, and experience with relevant populations. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm, with competitive benefits and a supportive work environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Music Therapy from a recognized school.
• Board-certified in Music Therapy (MT-BC).
• At least one year of experience with hospice and/or pediatric palliative care populations, or closely related populations.
• Knowledge of existing music therapy methods, techniques, materials and equipment.
• Comfort working with socioculturally diverse patients and families.
• Ability to take initiative, work independently, multitask and manage time well.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to represent Good Shepherd professionally with partners and in the community.
• PC proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• The Music Therapist will use therapeutic music activities to address emotional and psychological needs of patients with life-limiting and/or terminal illnesses.
• Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide compassionate care for pediatric palliative care and hospice programs.
• Complete initial assessments of new patients/families to determine music therapy needs and develop individualized care plans with interventions, goals and visit frequency.
