Job summary

Ridgeview Institute Smyrna in Smyrna, GA is seeking a Mental Health Technician (MHT) PRN to join the Recovery Residence team. The MHT provides continuous patient care, supervision, interaction and role modeling under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred; CNA preferred. Experience: 1 year in psychiatric patient care preferred. CPR/First Aid and CPI training within 90 days may be required. RIS emphasizes compassionate care and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred; or Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
• Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy or appropriate therapeutic discipline.
• One year of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Take and record vital signs properly.
• Observe and document changes in a patient's appearance, behavior, or progress toward treatment goals.
• Communicate changes in the patient's condition to the charge nurse.
• Follow the therapeutic interventions outlined by the treatment team for each patient.
• Document the treatment plan, nursing interventions, and the patient's response to the intervention.
• Employ appropriate crisis intervention techniques as needed.
• Assist patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living.
• Act as the patient's advocate and ensure that the patient's rights are upheld.

Education
