Job summary

Ochsner Health in Metairie, LA is seeking a capable Medical Assistant to support physicians and care teams by preparing patients, documenting visits, and coordinating care across in-person and phone communications.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, completion of a medical assisting training program, and Medical Assistant Certification with BLS. You will work under supervision to ensure efficient patient flow and maintain patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Required High School Diploma or GED.
• Preferred completion of a formal medical assistant training program.
• Experience handling confidential information in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Supports the patient and provider throughout the patient visit
• Ensures the patient and provider are prepared for the visit
• Ensures the patient's questions are answered prior to leaving; prepares room for next appointment
• Provides excellent patient service through effective communication both over the phone and in person
• Completes appropriate documentation including patient registration if necessary
• Maintains required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training and credentials through personal professional development
• Meets the procedures of the Department of Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs, if working in an occupational health clinic
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style
• Performs other duties as assigned
